Soil products and mulches made from renewable green materials collected weekly from Ventura County residents are now available at Moorpark and Somis nurseries.
Planting mix, potting soil, vegetable garden mix and other soil products created from local green materials by Oxnard-based organics recycler Agromin are available at Performance Nursery's two locations: 12777 Tierra Rejada Rd. in Moorpark and at 6001 Los Angeles Ave. in Somis.
"We are all trying to be more sustainable," says Bill Camarillo, Agromin CEO. "One way is by producing products locally that can be used locally. Grass clippings, leaves and other green materials are collected from residents and businesses and then go through a natural recycling process that produces some of the richest compost in the country. The compost and mulch are then made available to consumers and landscapers in bags and in bulk and distributed onto our county's agricultural lands."
"It's important for gardeners to protect their investment," says Fernando Munoz, Performance Nursery manager in Somis. "Using quality planting mix, like Agromin's, will make your plants stronger and healthier. And, it's always a good idea to use products created locally from our own green materials. It's better for our economy and better for the environment."
Agromin processed over 360,000 tons of organic materials last year. Its largest customers are farmers and professional landscapers but its products are becoming more available to consumers through retail outlets.
"It's good to know that by filling up your green barrel each week, you're doing your part to create a more sustainable and cleaner community," says Camarillo.
