• Agromin's Potting Mix Is Now OMRI Listed; Approved For Use in USDA Certified Organic Food Production - Monday, August 29, 2011 at

  • Agromin Potting Mix can now be used in the production and processing of USDA certified organic food products after the potting mix met the strict requirements of the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI). Agromin, which produces earth-friendly soil products for farmers, landscapers and gardeners, is one of only a handful of plant-only soil product manufacturers in the country to produce OMRI-listed potting soil.

"Becoming OMRI listed means that all food products grown or processed under the USDA National Organic Program can be grown in Agromin Potting Mix," says Bill Camarillo, Agromin CEO. "For backyard gardeners, this brings an extra level of assurance that they are using potting mix that is safe and natural and contains no harmful chemicals, animal waste or sludge that is often found in other potting mixes."

Agromin's Compost 100 soil amendment became OMRI listed in 2008. The product is used primarily by farmers, although consumers can purchase Compost 100 in bulk. "Growers saw the value in using OMRI-listed soil amendments in their fields," says Camarillo. "We believe consumers will see the same value and look for the OMRI logo whenever purchasing potting mix for their garden projects."

Agromin Potting Mix is made from all natural and sustainably renewed organic ingredients. Agromin is the organics recycler for 50 communities in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles Counties, producing soil amendments, bark and mulches from the more than 385,000 tons of renewable green materials it collects each year from city residents and businesses.

Agromin Potting Mix and other soil products are available in bulk or bag at retailers in Southern California. For locations, go to www.agromin.com. For information about OMRI, go to www.omri.org.
